From interactive museums to outdoor adventures, Houston has a lot to offer travelers. Here are 10 off-the-beaten-path hidden gems that are sure to make for a memorable and fun time. 
Looking to get outside? Brazos Bend State Park, located about 45-minutes outside of the city, offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. Hikers and runners will enjoy the 37-miles of trails that highlight the beautiful surrounding area. If you live in the area and enjoy horseback riding, there are also 13-miles of equestrian-friendly trails to check out. Fishing is another popular activity at this state park. 
Here’s one for the Lord of The Rings fans! Houston’s Hobbit Cafe is a local favorite, offering a variety of light fare as well as coffee. Sitting under a sprawling oak tree, the interior of the Hobbit Cafe features Middle Earth-inspired decor. 
Fans of both cars and art will love this option. This private museum showcases a variety of one-of-a-kind exhibits, including cars painted with gorgeous murals as well as sculptures created from cars. The museum is generally open every day except for Monday and Tuesday, except for occasional special events. 
Here’s another option for a one-of-a-kind museum in the Houston area. This interactive science center features a variety of revolving exhibits related to health and medical advancements and history. One of its notable exhibits is the Amazing Body Gallery, which features several interactive experiences including checking your heart rate and a giant eyeball showcasing how the human eye perceives images. 
If you’re looking to get some fresh air without going far outside of the city, Buffalo Bayou Park is an excellent option. This 2.3-mile long park is located only a few minutes’ drive from downtown Houston. A great spot for running, biking, or enjoying a picnic, the park is an urban oasis. 
This interactive art exhibit is truly jaw-dropping. You can look forward to exploring the 40,000 square feet that makeup Seismique, and features stunning and interactive light displays. The museum is open every day except Tuesday, and tickets can be bought in person at the ticket booth. 
Enjoy a candlelit glass of wine at La Carafe. This bar is located in the oldest building in Houston and offers more than one kind of spirit. In addition to its location in a historic building, the bar is also rumored to be haunted. 
The Color Factory is an immersive art museum with locations in New York and Houston. The Houston location is an amazing spot to spend a day exploring the exhibits or taking some unique and memorable photos. A few examples of interactive exhibits include a ball pit and a room filled with confetti. 
Enjoy a wide variety of delicious, uniquely flavored, and aesthetically pleasing frozen treats at Bae Ice Cream. This ice cream shop is a great place to stop by on a hotter afternoon, perfect as temperatures once again begin to soar in Houston.
El Gato Coffeehouse is Houston’s first cat cafe. The cat cafe trend has become more popular in recent years thanks to featuring two things people love: great coffee and getting to visit adorable cats! Like many cat cafes, the felines at El Gato are all adoptable. In fact, the organization is about to celebrate reaching 500 adoptions on April 9th. This means visiting won’t just be fun, but also helping a great cause.
